Big week - 2 Quick Weekend Actions can help Tuesday Committee Votes!

Thank you for your help so far! The legislative session is coming to a close soon but there's much we can do this week!! House Committees are voting on 2 separate bills this Tuesday - these are both bills Carbon WA has supported this session, and have already passed the Senate. Tuesday's votes could bring them to the House floor, and finally the Governor's desk. Combined, they address both rural and urban issues in our state. We have made these 2 ACTION ITEMS as easy as possible for you — to reach key committee inboxes in time.

Climate Action #1

SB 5947 - Sustainable Farms and Fields helps WA farmers. If you support the bill and want to see it get a floor vote in the House, send an email to the Rural Development, Agriculture and Natural Resources Committee. Grants for 3 buckets — regenerative farming, agroforestry and reduction in fossil fuel inputs (i.e., fertilizer and diesel fuel) would be awarded to farmers, ranchers and orchardists across the state in exchange for reduction in CO2 emissions. Farmers grow our food, so their economic and environmental costs are our costs. SB 5947 would have long-term impacts in shifting the economics for these sustainable farmers, while continuing or establishing sustainable practices for years to come. It's a bipartisan bill that CarbonWA has been involved with from the start, and it's almost at the finish line! Please email the Rural Development, Agriculture and Natural Resources committee members now!

Climate Action #2

SB 5811 - Zero Emissions Vehicles reduces transportation emissions by expanding our clean car program standards. If you support the bill and want to see it get a floor vote in the House, please send an email to the Environment & Energy Committee. The link will auto-populate the following:Subject: Do Pass SB 5811 - Zero Emissions Vehicles StandardsTo: Joe.Fitzgibbon@leg.wa.gov, Debra.Lekanoff@leg.wa.gov, Matt.Shea@leg.wa.gov, Mary.Dye@leg.wa.gov, Matt.Boehnke@leg.wa.gov, Richard.DeBolt@leg.wa.gov, Beth.Doglio@leg.wa.gov, Jake.Fey@leg.wa.gov, Jared.Mead@leg.wa.gov, Strom.Peterson@leg.wa.gov, Sharon.Shewmake@leg.wa.govDear Representative,Please Do Pass SB 5811 Zero Emissions Vehicles StandardsMy name is:My home or business address is:My phone number is:My affiliation is: (Optional - "Concerned Citizen, Parent, Climate change are ok)I support this bill because:SB 5811 - Reduces vehicle emissions by expanding our clean car program standards to include more vehicles — basically closing a gap we currently have from California levels. It's good for WA because more new electric vehicles would become available sooner — not a year later than other states! On-road gasoline transportation accounts for over 21%* of Washington state's emissions! Carbon Washington supports this bill because with ever more drivers on our roads we need to curb the tide of air and water pollution. Please email the Environment & Energy committee members now! To learn more about SB5947 and the status of other CarbonWA-backed bills, check out our latest CarbonCast podcast, which aired last Monday.Visit our website for the full list of bills Carbon Washington supports this session. To support our advocacy and research, please consider donating here.*Source: Seattle Times: Washington's greenhouse gas emissions spiked 6 percent in most recent tally,January 15, 2019
